The Department of Environmental Hygiene & Pharmaceuticals at the Instituts für Umwelt & Energie, Technik & Analytik e. V. (IUTA) is engaged in research and development focused on occupational safety in the handling of cytostatic drugs and (bio)pharmaceuticals. The goal of these research activities is to improve workplace hygiene beyond the current state of the art. To this end, data is collected as part of national and international research projects and studies, innovative detection systems and monitoring methods are developed, and new decontamination strategies are validated.
In addition, we assist pharmacies with quality assurance in the preparation of patient-specific formulations for cancer treatment. This begins with the collection of stability data on opened vials and dilutions, which are often missing from the relevant product information, particularly for novel medications. We help analyze and investigate drug impurities and cross-contamination in medications during production and filling.
Furthermore, we conduct research on the development of novel methods for analyzing drug preparations. To this end, we utilize a broad analytical portfolio, including, for example, additive-manufactured separation phases for liquid chromatography, capillary-enhanced online detectors, or non-invasive methods for inspection based on Raman spectroscopy.
To achieve our research goals, IUTA collaborate with research institutions, organizations, or small and medium-sized companies. Addressing scientific questions and projects within interdisciplinary consortia enables us to achieve common goals more quickly. We are therefore always interested in collaborations.
We would be happy to provide you with information about ongoing and completed projects.
